Put books into the hearts, hands, and homes of children

Together, JustWorld and StoryBook Treasures brings Belle Glade, a south Florida town with high unemployment, widespread poverty and persistent violence, a program designed to close the achievement gap between culturally, linguistically, and economically deprived students and their peers. According to a recent McGraw-Hill article, nationally, two-thirds of students who cannot read by the fourth grade end up incarcerated or on welfare, and are four times more likely to drop out of school. This eye opening statistic is especially true for students in schools with a high percentage of minority and economically disadvantaged populations, such as Belle Glade.

The program helps children make vital comprehensive reading connections to literature while building a classroom and personal home library collection of books.

The StoryBook Treasures program was first implemented at Pioneer Park Elementary in Belle Glade during the 2017-2018 school year as a trial with 97 Pre-K and Grade 1 students. Results and testimonials from teachers and parents encouraged the partnership to expand for all students in Pre-K-Grade 3 every year since the launch of the program. This year we are pleased to share our plan to expand the program and put books into the hearts, hands, and homes of children of the Belle Glade Elementary school.

In order to achieve our mission, we need your help to raise the funds to launch the program.
